KDNY: Prayers at Station thrilled me!

KDNY (News From New York):
M. Syamsi Ali: Imam Mosque Islamic Cultural Center of New York
Accompanied by the echoes of "Allahu Akbar!", Afternoon chocolate man's origin Trinidad officially became a Muslim after his confession of faith before Asr prayer.

Trinidadian origin of brown-skinned young man was stunned at the sight before him. Dion's eyes, the 26-year-old, endlessly leads to a group of Muslims who were praying with khusyu'nya amid the tumult of the train station in a town in Belgium. Dion thunderstruck. "I do not know, suddenly seeing their prayers at the station my heart was trembling," he said.

After they prayed, Dion ventured to ask, who the hell they are and what they've done? After getting an answer from them, a young man who worked as an accountant in Stamford, Connecticut, had never been thought. There are thoughts that raced hard, between the trust with her own feelings and what he knows so far about Islam.

Three weeks after the event, Dion met me at the Islamic Forum for non-Muslims in New York that I care. Her hair was long. Style dresses made me almost not believe that his heart was so soft to receive divine guidance. Usually when receiving new entrants in this class, I began to explain the basics of Islam according to the needs and knowledge of each participant. But that day, without a wasted opportunity, I explained the meaning of prayer in human life, especially in the context of modern humans who have experienced the emptiness of spirituality.

Almost an hour I explain it to Dion and other new entrants. Almost no serious question, except a few who questioned about the number of prayers which they say too much. "What is five times a day is not too heavy?" someone asked. "Absolutely not. For a Muslim, praying 5 times even more than that is the grace of God," I replied. I usually compare with eating, drinking, rest for physical needs.

After the class break, Dion wants to talk together. Usually I am in a hurry because they have to fill teaching in one of the other mosques. "I think Islam is what I really need. What should I do to become a Muslim?" he asked straightforwardly.

I paused, then I say, "I do not want to delay if you really believe that this is the right path for you. But try to make sure, if this decision comes from within yourself."

With a vibrant Dione then replied, "Since two weeks ago, I looked for ways to follow this religion. Lucky me here today. Kasih know I need up to?" he said again.

Alhamdulillah, that afternoon Dion also officially became a Muslim after his confession of faith before Asr prayer. Accompanied by the echoes of "Allahu Akbar!" he received congratulations from hundreds jama'a the Asr prayer at the Islamic Center of New York.

Last Saturday, April 8, Dion was one of my students who attended his lectures at Yale University under the theme "Islam, Freedom and Democracy in Contemporary Indonesia." On that occasion I introduced him to the Muslim communities that exist in Connecticut, especially in Stamford. Unfortunately, there is no place in his area where he can explore Islam further. Until now, he's still back and forth to New York and Stamford, which takes about 1 hour, to study Islam.

Hopefully Dion strengthened and maintained in the refuge!
